The highly prospective Youanmi Project covers an area of 177 square kilometres, and is located 450 km northeast of Perth in the Murchison Mineral Field. The Project sits at the northern end of a 20 km long corridor of Lithium, Caesium, Tantalum (“LCT”) pegmatite intrusions that have delivered significant results for other explorers at the southern end of the trend.
Initial field reconnaissance work competed by Scorpion has confirmed extensive LCT pegmatite swarms. Individual pegmatites are up to 1000 m long and surface exposures suggest widths from 5 m to 15 m wide. The pegmatites are shallow east dipping and exhibit mineral zonation both of which are important characteristics of significant LCT systems.
Drilling carried out by Scorpion at Youanmi in February and May has confirmed lithium mineralisation extends down dip of multiple stacked shallow east dipping LCT pegmatites to a depth of at least 175 metres below surface. Parallel pegmatites intersected east and west of the central zone have increased the width of the corridor to at least 850 metres.
The programme (currently totalling 23 RC holes for 3,634 metres) has intersected lithium mineralisation up to 13 metres in thickness. Individual 1 m assays up to 3.19% Li2O were returned. Significant intercepts include:
Mineralisation is open in all directions with, significantly, a wide zone of mineralisation of 9m @ 1.50% Li2O from 160m in SYRC014 intersected on the most northern line of recent drilling open to the north and down dip (click here for most recent results).
Exploration at Youanmi and in the broader region has confirmed the presence of lepidolite, petalite and possible spodumene suggesting the presence of zonation within the LCT pegmatites either across their width and/or along strike. Future exploration will focus on determining the zonation trend to identify high priority targets.
Scorpion plans to commence the following exploration programmes and regular updates on progress will be provided:
